March Home Maintenance Checklist

This year’s winter was fairly mild in Connecticut as residents were spared from major snowstorms and surprised with warmer weather earlier than expected. Now, the first official day of Spring is less than three weeks away which makes it the perfect time for homeowners to get ready for a change in season. Make sure your home is ready for those rising temps with our March home maintenance checklist.

Schedule a roof inspection
Once the snow is melted and cleared away once and for all, it’s time to have your roof inspected for any signs of damage. This should be taken care of by a professional roofing company, who will not only have the expertise to assess the best course of action but will also take the proper safety precautions. They will look for problem spots such as damaged or missing shingles and flashing, areas that sag, loose or missing nails, cracks, mold and more. Roof repairs should be taken care of as soon as possible to avoid an even bigger and more expensive issue down the road.

Powerwash the exterior your home
Powerwashing your home does a lot more than improve its overall look; it also protects it from the elements such as heavy snow or intense heat. Because the materials on the exterior or your home can expand and contract, the changing seasons here in Connecticut can easily lead to damage if you do not take preventative and precautionary steps to protect it. Powerwashing your home also prevents harmful particles such as dirt, mold, and mildew from growing and negatively affecting your family’s health.

Check your decks and porches
Before you get back to entertaining friends and family on your deck or porch this Spring and Summer, you should have them inspected for any signs of weakness. Everything from the foundation to the flashing should be checked to make sure that the weight of the snow has not compromised the structure in any way. Porches and decks should also be checked for any loose or missing boards and thoroughly washed to remove any mold or mildew that may have started to grow.

Ensure your AC unit is ready
Get a jump on hot and humid weather by making sure your air conditioning unit is in top working condition. Not only should it be checked for leaks, but it should be cleaned and have filters replaced as well. If you feel there’s an issue, it’s better to call an HVAC company right away before they are inundated with repair requests. This way, you’ll make sure the temperature in your home is consistent and comfortable for everyone while keeping your energy costs down.
